Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Newman's Own Foundation, Builders Beyond Borders and students like Morgan Singer of Westport can continue to help those in need, here and abroad.

Builders, a volunteer-based non-profit located in Norwalk, gives local high school students the opportunity to participate in construction projects in developing nations as well as in local communities. Most recently, volunteers like Singer, a student at Westport's Staples High School, traveled to Peru.

"From the students who volunteer with us, to the families we are privileged to serve, everyone in the Builders Beyond Borders community is grateful for the support of the Newman's Own Foundation," said Executive Director Amy Schroeder-Riggio in a prepared statement.

"Our mantra is 'build a better world,' and it's an honor to be recognized as an ally in Newman's Own Foundation's mission of making the world a better place."
