FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Platform tennis players from Fairfield County will swing away Saturday in the Paul Fowler Invitational Tournament at clubs throughout the region.

The premier doubles event for the county’s vast platform tennis community, the tourney features 16 two-man teams in seven divisions. WESTPORT, Conn. – Henry Wynne won two events to lead Staples’ boys track team to its first league indoor championship in five years Thursday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. Staples’ girls finished fourth and won two events.

Wynne, a junior, won the 1,000 and 1,600. He also took second in the 3,200 as Staples compiled 107 points. Danbury finished second with 70, and Greenwich was third with 52.

STAMFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut Yankees youth hockey club and Skyliners synchronized skating team have entered into agreements with Chelsea Piers Connecticut to serve as the training venue for both organizations.

The Connecticut Yankees will also expand the boys and girls AAA program from a spring/summer program to a year-round program and will field Elite AAA teams at all levels. The Yankees also plan to host showcase tournaments throughout the year at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, a Stamford-based sports and recreation facility scheduled to open in June.

WESTPORT, Conn. – Sean Obi scored 18 points and grabbed 29 rebounds Wednesday as Greens Farms Academy’s boys basketball team extended its school-record winning streak to nine games with a 68-60 victory over Hamden Hall.

Greens Farms improved to 12-3 and 9-3 in the Fairchester Athletic Association with the win over Hamden Hall, which is ranked No. 1 among Class C New England Prep Schools by the national sports website Max Preps. Hamden Hall is 11-3 overall and 7-1 in the league.

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk-based Xtreme Cheer Blaze rallied from behind over the weekend to win the national title in the Platinum Athletic Championships in Providence, R.I.

The  Blaze, which has Fairfield County athletes up to age 18, were in third place after the first day of the two-day event. The Blaze won the competition with a big performance on Sunday.

The Blaze had to adjust its lineup when a cheerleaderler left the team late last week. Norwalk’s Sophia Buitrago, a late addition to the team, filled in admirably, coach Dana Talbot said.
